Penryn College became a Sports College in 1998, the seventeenth in the country to receive this accolade. This means that the young people are given greater opportunities in a wide range of sport, particularly outdoor education. These wider opportunities exist in a full range of subjects, not just in sport. The College been officially recognised as a "High Performing Specialist School" because of the standards achieved by the young people.
